KILLDIL – Review

Critic’s Rating: 2.5/5

Story: A contract killer wants to reform for love; but wait, will the ones who order him to kill, allow him to listen to his dil?

Review: Shaad Ali’s Kill Dil is inspired by countless Hollywood movies that showcase the protagonists romancing the gun. Here too, the two heroes Dev (Ranveer Singh) and Tutu (Ali Zafar) are orphans who are raised by a local Delhi don, Bhaiyyaji (Govinda). Brought up against the backdrop of bullets instead of lullabies, the chaddi-buddies drop out of primary school and grow up to become contract killers. With mafia killings being a regular feature of the Indian city underbelly, the trigger-happy twosome goes about their work without remorse. So there you go. There is enough pizzazz to divert you from the clichéd plot. And what makes this film watchable is the effortless chemistry between Ranveer and Ali. Their poker-faced humour, jibes at one another .
Govinda’s on-screen entry and trademark dance step had the matinee crowd in a tizzy. The movie was very average and a flop. Only good thing about the film was Ranveer.

Raid

If you have seen the trailer of RAID, you have pretty much seen the movie. Rajkumar Gupta who has given us solid narratives like Aamir and No one killed Jessica, fails to keep us involved in the writing, this time. The movie is set in 1980’s which is why, probably, most of the movie is dark and gloomy. It’s 128 mins long and has immense scope of putting you to sleep. Ajay Devgn plays a role of a honest government officer and Ileana D’cruz plays a doting and protective wife. Ajay has over the years gotten into the skin of such roles and justifies the character well. Ileana has a negligible screen presence, but whatever she does, you can watch her. Saurabh Shukla is brilliant, like he has always been and you definately look forward to seeing more of him on the screen. A super talent like Sheeba Chaddha has been wasted through out the movie. However, the real attention stealer of the movie is the actress who has played the role of ‘Dadi’. The casting unit deserves an applause, truly, for finding her and the director for extracting those lines from her. With over 100 junior artists in the background, no one comes across as a strong actor. The dialogues are crisp and apt in few scenes but mostly seem like a deliberate effort in creating impactful lines which fail badly. The climax of the movie brings you back to a harsh reality that Bollywood can’t do without some ‘unaccepted love and revenge’ cliches. So if you wish to watch the movie, do it at your own risk, but go with zero expectations.

Hacksaw Ridge -Movie Review

Directed By : Mel Gibson

Starring : Andrew Garfield

This movie is based on the true life story of Desmond Doss . Desmond believes in the commandment “Thou shalt not kill“. Doss enlists in the Army to serve as a combat medic. His father Tom, a World War I veteran, is deeply upset by the decision. Doss is placed in basic training, he excels in physical training but refuses to handle a rifle. During the Battle of Okinawa, Doss’s unit is informed that they are to relieve the 96th Infantry Division, which was tasked with ascending and securing the Maeda Escarpment (“Hacksaw Ridge”). The next morning, the Japanese launch a massive counterattack and drive the Americans off the escarpment. Doss hears the cries of dying soldiers and returns to save them, carrying the wounded to the cliff’s edge and belaying them down by rope, each time praying to save one more. Doss rescues 75 soldiers at Hacksaw Ridge.

Intense and Emotional. Such an emotional and inspiring story. This is a story not only of immense courage but also empathy, a cutting edge thrilling and inspiring true story. Amazing Direction with brilliant acting by Andrew Garfield. This film was critically acclaimed and a big commercial success. It received many nominations at countless award ceremonies. This story not only inspires us to be a better person, but to also have compassion, humanity and benevolence. Great movie, and even better story. Before watching get some tissues cause you’ll definitely be crying.

AMERICAN SNIPER

Based on the life and book of an American Navy SEAL, Chris Kyle, the movie features some of the most violent depictions of the Iraq war. Kyle, who was considered as the most lethal sniper in US military history, took more than 150 targets including his best shot from the distance of 1.8 kilometres. The minute I saw Chris Kyle on the screen, I was certain that no one could have played him more accurately than Bradley Cooper. American Sniper has also given its director, the legendary Clint Eastwood, a lot to cherish since this movie proved to be the most successful one of his entire directing career, which spans over four decades. just awesome. good to watch. 7 out of 10.

FIRST MAN Movie Review

Directed byDamien Chazelle

Starring

Ryan Gosling

Claire Foy

Jason Clarke

Kyle Chandler

Another spectacle from Damien Chazelle.First Man is a 2018 American biographical drama film. Based on the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James R. Hansen. From Extremely close up shots, Chazelle manages to capture every essence of space and characters because fortunately, this isn’t just a film about moon landing, it’s a film about Neil Armstrong. On a technical level, First Man shines gloriously as it has some of the best handheld shots and cinematography. From the opening scene, Chazelle makes you believe that you’re going to be on an epic journey. Characterization, in my opinion is pithch perfect and makes the best use of its slow pacing and star strudded cast. That said, First Man is as high on the mind as it is on the heart, it makes you face enough challenges to believe that the landing wasn’t easy at all, at a point of time I had given up the fact that the landing ever happened.

The Wolf of Wall Street is a 2013 American biographical black comedy, based on the life of Jordan Belfort. It recounts Belfort’s perspective on his career as a stockbroker in New York City and how his firm engaged in rampant corruption and fraud on Wall Street, which ultimately led to his downfall. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, with praise for Scorsese’s direction, the comedic performance of DiCaprio and the fast-paced and consistent humour. It has also been criticized by many as glorifying the infamous individuals and immoral behaviours portrayed in the film. It is one of the most amusing and appalling films around. This Wolf makes you wince, think, laugh – and growl.

ALI

Release date: 25th December 2001

Cast: Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, Jada Pinkett Smith

Director: Michael Mann

Run time: 2hrs 47mins

Rating: 6.8/10

Ali is a life story of heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali, following the champ’s early days as Cassius Clay and his rise in sports and politics, including his controversial refusal to fight in the Vietnam War and his infamous comeback battles against Joe Frazier and George Foreman.

Ali in the 1960s stood for the proposition that principles matter, that equality among people is just and proper, and that the war in Vietnam was wrong. Every time he looked in the mirror and preened, “I’m so pretty,” he was saying “black is beautiful” before it became fashionable to do so. But one of the reasons Ali had the impact he did was because there was an ugly edge to what he said. Many of his views changed later on, but he was unrepentant regarding what he once believed. And by covering up the true nature of Ali’s earlier beliefs, the current keepers of his legacy are losing sight of why he so enthralled and enraged segments of American society.

Ali’s love affair with the world reached its zenith in 1996, when he was chosen to light the Olympic flame in Atlanta. It was a glorious moment. More than three billion people watched on television and were united by love and caring for one man. But the 1996 Olympics carried negatives as well, for it was in Atlanta that corporate America “rediscovered” Ali. Since then, there has been a determined effort to rewrite history. In order to take advantage of Ali’s economic potential, it was deemed desirable to “sanitize” him. As a result, all of the rough edges have been filed away from his life story.

THE SOCIAL NETWORK

Release date: 24th September 2010

Cast: Jesse Einsberg, Justin Timberlake, Andrew Garfield

Director: David Fincher

Run time: 2hrs 1min

Rating: 7.7/10

The Social Network” explores the moment at which Facebook, the most revolutionary social phenomena of the new century, was invented — through the warring perspectives of the super-smart young men who each claimed to be there at its inception.

The result is a drama rife with both creation and destruction; one that audaciously avoids a singular POV, but instead, by tracking dueling narratives, mirrors the clashing truths and constantly morphing social relationships that define our time.

Drawn from multiple sources, the film captures the visceral thrill of the heady early days of a culture-changing phenomenon in the making — and the way it both pulled a group of young revolutionaries together and then split them apart.

12 Years a slave – Movie Review

Directed by : Steve McQueen

Starring :

12 Years a Slave is a 2013 biographicalperiod-drama film . This is the story of Solomon Northup, a New York State-born free African-American man who was kidnapped in Washington, D.C. by two conmen in 1841 and sold into slavery. He was put to work on plantations. He is sold to difficult masters. 12 Years a Slave was named the best film of 2013 by several media outlets and critics. This movie is just Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant. Amazing Direction, Heart-warming story, amazing portrayal. This is just an amazing movie. It brings tears to your eyes and still makes you happy at the end. This movie however points directly in the absence of slavery, towards other maltreatment that could be laid upon humanity. This is an almost perfect movie. The character development is amazing and very emotional to watch. The movie could feel slow, some people might say certain scenes were drawn out. for the most part the pacing of the movie was good. The movie is very realistic and inspiring. Very touching and sensational.

The film is inspired by a real-life mathematician who, after growing up poor in MadrasIndia, earns admittance to Cambridge University during World War I, where he becomes a pioneer in mathematical theories with the guidance of his professor G. Do not enter the theatre with very high expectations and you would find the film a decent watch.
