PADMAAVAT

Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Cast : Deepika Padukone

Ranveer Singh

Shahid kapoor

Jim Sarbh

One such story, adorned with ultimate opulence, made it to the silver screen and I feel fortunate enough to witness this unparalleled cinematic experience. I am talking about Padmaavat. For me this narrative by Jayasi is beyond the binarism of fiction and non-fiction. It is way beyond glorification or defamation of any caste, creed or religion. It is the celebration of the foundation on which our present rests on. It is a celebration of gifts of self-esteem, courage, fidelity and love that were presented to us by our ancestors. It is a celebration of the lesson that the society must revise regularly for self-evolution. Such classic chronicles demand to break free from limits of geography and touch zillions of hearts.Being a self-proclaimed flag bearer of Bollywood fanaticism, I am fully convinced that Mr. Bhansali has successfully contributed to this endeavour with utmost grace, grandeur and dignity. As every frame progresses, one might find oneself getting engulfed into some magical realm. Every character, big or small, leaves a deep mark in your heart especially Deepika and Ranveer. Ever since she stepped out of that yellow car as “dreamy-girl” Shanti Priya, my love for Deepika Padukone has grown exponentially with every performance. But this movie was like none before: be it be personifying beauty or the ghoomar dance or those iconic dialogue deliveries or that Climax’s crescendo… man, that scene persuaded the emotional fool in me to boost the water works. And Shaid Kapoor has also played a wonderful character of the king and has been very attractive to the audience. And Ranveer Singh… well he transformed the 3D experience to 4D, as I could feel the power emitting from him in every frame. He truly deserves every possible award for his portrayal of Khalji. But the climax was just extraordinary because a act of jauhar was performed with gave all the audience a very huge impact. At the end just a simple appeal, this piece of art doesn’t deserve hooliganism but just sheer love and appreciation. In my opinion this movie made us realise how the kings and queen use to live in the olden days and has made history !

NEERJA

Release date: 19th February 2016

Cast: Sonam Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Shekar Ravjiani, Jim Sarbh, Yogendra Tiku

Director: Ram Madhvani

In September 1986, Neerja Bhanot(Sonam) saves the lives of 359 passengers on a hijacked Pan Am plane from Mumbai to New York via Karachi.

The story of this Indian beti is well-known and famous. The in-flight drama between gun-`n’-grenade toting men and a plane-load of hapless victims, leaves you angry. The film makes you weep and mourn the ongoing acts of global terrorism. You also look at Neerja’s troubled marriage. She has her reasons for being the brave heart she is. Having fled from a disastrous alliance to a male chauvinist, Neerja has promised herself that if ever life gives her another opportunity, she will look adversity in the eye. But darn it, 23 is still no age to die.

Sonam’s Neerja quietly seals a place in your heart. There are no theatrics; she’s dignified, strong and real. Shabana as the bereaved mother makes her grief yours, her daughter’s glory also yours. Yogendra Tiku lends able support and Khalil(Jim Sarbh) as the maniacal terrorist is terrific.

This one raises a toast to the daunting spirit of India’s daughters; every one of us must salute Neerja.

SANJU

Sanju is a 2018 Indian biographical film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi. The film follows the life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, his addiction with drugs, arrest for alleged association with the 1993 Bombay bombings, relationship with his father, comeback in the industry, the eventual drop of charges from bombay blasts, and release after completing his jail term. Sanju blends humor with drama effortlessly. Ranbir Kapoor stars as Dutt, along with an ensemble cast. Ranbir Kapoor is just as good as his reputation.Yes, there’s a lot missing, but even then, this is still an incredible story of a man and a movie star who made massive mistakes, walked through fire, survived it and lived one heck of a life. Watch this movie if you feel low and in need of some inspiration, it is funny and heart warming. It is available on Disney+ Hotstar.

Movies and Series are ART.

Movies are entertainment, NO, they are not, they are beautiful stories, portrayed marvellously to inspire, educate and free you. Not all movies are great or considered art, but there are great movies and some definitely should be displayed in the Louvre. Movies have the power to teleport you to another world, where you could be anyone you want, the protagonist, an antagonist or even a quiet bystander. A movie can rid you of your troubles even if its only for an hour or two. We review and recommend series and movies to make you feel inspired and free. Don’t know what to watch, well that’s what we’re here for.

“When a movie character is really working, we become that character. That’s what the movies offer: Escapism into lives other than our own.”
