KILLDIL – Review

Critic’s Rating: 2.5/5

Story: A contract killer wants to reform for love; but wait, will the ones who order him to kill, allow him to listen to his dil?

Review: Shaad Ali’s Kill Dil is inspired by countless Hollywood movies that showcase the protagonists romancing the gun. Here too, the two heroes Dev (Ranveer Singh) and Tutu (Ali Zafar) are orphans who are raised by a local Delhi don, Bhaiyyaji (Govinda). Brought up against the backdrop of bullets instead of lullabies, the chaddi-buddies drop out of primary school and grow up to become contract killers. With mafia killings being a regular feature of the Indian city underbelly, the trigger-happy twosome goes about their work without remorse. So there you go. There is enough pizzazz to divert you from the clichéd plot. And what makes this film watchable is the effortless chemistry between Ranveer and Ali. Their poker-faced humour, jibes at one another .
Govinda’s on-screen entry and trademark dance step had the matinee crowd in a tizzy. The movie was very average and a flop. Only good thing about the film was Ranveer.

This movie however points directly in the absence of slavery, towards other maltreatment that could be laid upon humanity. This is an almost perfect movie. The character development is amazing and very emotional to watch. The movie could feel slow, some people might say certain scenes were drawn out. for the most part the pacing of the movie was good. Sonam Kapoor
Radhika Apte

Padman is based on the Short story “The Sanitary Man of Sacred Land” from the novel The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad
by Twinkle Khanna. The film became a major critical and commercial success . Akshay, yet again impressed the audience with his charming personality.  PadMan, which features an extraordinary true-life story, is both a strong film and one that needs to be watched. The movie is based on the extraordinary life of innovator Arunachalam Muruganantham. This is a very inspiring film. The actor is exceptional in the film, calm and keen-eyed when at work, and it takes balance and restraint to play a character so singular . The story revolves around Laxmi (Kumar) who is deeply in love with his wife. He sees his wife using bad cloth during her periods and tells her to use pads, she tells him not to interfere. Laxmi makes it his mission to Produce low cost sanitary pads. He faces many obstacles during his course to make low cost sanitary pads. He then meets Pari Walia (Sonam Kapoor), a modern, educated woman from the city, and supplies a pad to her. Pari is impressed with him and invites him to an innovation fair in Delhi. Laxmi’s invention is recognized as the “Life-Changing Innovation of the Year”. This begins their journey to producing low cost pads to rural women. This is a real life, inspiring story which is nothing short of a blockbuster. The film ends with a grand speech delivered to the United Nations in a peculiar pidgin English, something Lakshmi winningly calls Linglish. Loved this movie, the story and all the characters. This is a thought provoking movie which highlights the social stigma on periods and sanitary napkins. This movie is brilliantly written and portrayed. Definitely a must watch.

Kesari – Movie Review

Directed by – Anurag Singh Starring – Akshay Kumar
Written By – Anurag Singh
Girish Kohli

The Movie KESARI, is based on the epic Battle of Saragarhi. Led by Havaldar Ishar Singh (Akshay Kumar) of the 36th Sikh Regiment, it’s the story of 21 gallant Sikh soldiers who died at their post while defending the fort of Saragarhi from Afghan invaders on September 12, 1897. While the writers have taken every care to circumvent any major historical mistakes or errors of period detail, the dumbing down of messages, including the act of patriotism, is lazily crafted. They are simply trying to pass off their fiction as authentic. There are no complaints on the performance front. Every actor performs his part to perfection. Akshay bites into the skin of his character to give a sincere presentation. Although based on a true story, this fictional movie, misses its mark.  The pace of the narrative is an issue. Overall the brave and courageous story misses it’s mark. Though touching, the story could’ve been better written. One of the greatest battle in history fails in getting any critical appreciation. The movie does tap into the patriotic side of the viewer. The movie was hugely successful at the box office. The music was definitely touching and emotional, brilliantly composed. Watch the movie for the brilliant portrayal of Halvinder Singh by Akshay Kumar.
