PARASITE

The Kim family – father Ki-taek, mother Chung-sook, daughter Ki-jung and son Ki-woo – live in a small semi-basement apartment and have low-paying temporary jobs as pizza box folders, and struggle to make ends meet. University student Min-hyuk, a friend of Ki-woo’s, Leaving to study abroad, suggests that Ki-woo pose as a university student to take over his job as an English tutor for the daughter of the wealthy Park family, Da-hye. Ki-woo poses as a Yonsei University student and is hired by the Parks. The Kim family recommends one another as unrelated and highly qualified workers to take over as servants of the Parks. From there the story completely renovates itself and crime and suspense chime in.

The director controls the perceptions of the audience throughout the movie in a very diligent manner. Parasite is extremely intriguing and thrilling and leaves the audience asking for more. You won’t take your eyes off the screen even for a second and entire movie is a roller coaster from beginning to the end. This movie was an experience and just made you tick, so many scenes that will make you anxious, excited or baffled. The movie in a word – MASTERPIECE.

A MUST WATCH!

JOKER

Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) isn’t happy with his life. He struggles to make money as a part-time clown while sharing a rundown apartment with his ailing mom (Frances Conroy). But Arthur lives in a city struck by hard times where a decent, honest living is difficult to come by. He also suffers from a condition that causes him to break into uncontrollable laughter. None of this stops Arthur from dreaming big. He aspires to be a stand-up comedian and attempts to write jokes in his diary. Caught in between it all, Arthur slowly begins to lose his grip on sanity.

See the Joker’s beginning, the insanity and his story unravel in this movie. This is the story of a man at his wit’s end when pushed beyond his breaking point. This also resonates in his gritty vision of Gotham City, a metropolis brought to its knees, and crime is just a way of life. Only the rich and corrupt seem to be unaffected by the mayhem – a pertinent notion in present times. Set in the early 80’s, this fictional city is reminiscent of that era with impeccable production and a time-relevant, yet unsettling soundtrack that evokes a constant sense of uneasiness.

This movie slowly grips the reality of insanity mixed with anger and crime. Phoenix won an Oscar for his performance, and it was well deserved. This movie keeps you hooked till the end and pays homage to Heath Ledger’s JOKER. Bored and want to be entertained, then this would definitely be a good choice.

LADIES VS RICKY BAHL – Review

Critic’s Rating: 3.0/5

Story: Ricky Bahl (Ranveer Singh), a young conman makes his monies by duping pretty young things — Parineeti Chopra, Dipannita Sharma, Aditi Sharma — with impunity. Until, the trio decide to take revenge by pitting a con girl — Anushka Sharma — against him. Is it checkmate time or is it time for redemption?

Movie Review: Maneesh Sharma struck the marquee with the offbeat Band Baaja Baraat. Indeed, a yardstick that would be hard to measure up to. And yes, his second film doesn’t really match the zing and the verve of the first one. Firstly, there is no humour, no earthy flavour. What does work in favour of the film are its performances and its non-hysterical tenor. The girls are a spirited lot and Ranveer is, well Ranveer: your average Joe kind of hero who looks convincing enough. An average movie overall.

ANJAANA ANJAANI – Review

Critic’s Rating: 3.0/5

Story: Akash (Ranbir Kapoor) and Kiara (Priyanka Chopra) meet on a bridge in Manhattan under unfavourable circumstances. They both are trying to throw themselves down in a suicidal bid, being unable to cope with the hurdles of life any longer. But jump, they can’t, and end up together in a pact which sees them spending twenty days together before they take the final plunge. So what happens in those twenty days? A road trip to Vegas, followed by loads of wish fulfilment…. More importantly, are they able to carry off the suicide pact? Keep guessing.

Movie Review: They meet as strangers in the night…. The possibilities are immense. Is director Siddharth Anand able to leverage this great opportunity and tell an engaging story about two people who find life and love on the threshold of death? Errr, umm, well, he does, but partially so. So where’s the problem yaar? It’s in the script and the narrative. The director chooses to use the format of a road movie to weave his romantic story. Only, the road seems to be a bit long and too straight. Don’t go looking for something new. And you will enjoy it. Well if you’re bored and looking for something, then you could give it a watch.

WAKE UP SID – Review

Critic’s Rating: 3.5/5

They, four drunken young friends, are driving back home. They are happy and high. And Sidharth Mehra (Ranbir Kapoor) wants to enjoy the moment. So he sticks his neck out of the sunroof and lets the friendly breeze feel his face. Without ambition or direction, that’s how Sid would forever love his life to be: a cool breeze he can waltz with. But life has a way of throwing up surprises. And none is bigger for the rich, cool kid than the accidental encounter with Aisha Banerjee (Konkona Sen Sharma), a just-arrived girl from Kolkata, the sort who reads Murakami’s Norwegian Wood and hangs Woody Allen’s Annie Hall posters in her room. She is independent, focused, gritty — everything Sid is not. But there’s a kismat connection between the two. And when Sid gets into a big fight with his dad over his career, or the lack of it, he moves out of his capacious home into Aisha’s cuddly apartment. Neatly lensed, the movie looks at Bombay — and now after producer Karan Johar’s apology, Mumbai — with love and affection. Too bad, Raj Thackeray missed the point. The songs — lyrics Javed Akhtar, music Shankar Ehsaan Loy — have a sense of romance too. But none is better than composer Amit Trivedi’s Iktara, a song filled with an unbearable lightness of being. Songs make the movie soar; they help us look inside the head and mood of Sid and Aisha and help carry the story forward.

TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS

Story: Tanu and Manu’s marriage collapses. What happens when Manu meets Tanu’s lookalike Kusum – and when Tanu returns?

Review: Straight away, Tanu Weds Manu Returns is a total delight that keeps you laughing, sighing, cheering – and guessing throughout. After a stormy romance, Tanu (Kangana) married Manu (Madhavan) four years ago. But in London, the sparks between them die. Tanu Weds Manu Returns boasts one of the finest double roles ever in Hindi cinema. Kangana is breathtakingly good. Madhavan does a fine job as quiet, often morose, sometimes hopeful Manu. The plot’s racily pacy. Packing in eccentric characters, hilarious scenes . It is overall a great and entertainment movie.

TANU WEDS MANU

Critic’s Rating: 3.0/5

Story: Manu (R Madhavan) is a sad and serious NRI doctor in London who comes looking for a bride in India. He flips for a sozzled small town girl, Tanu (Kangna Ranaut) who lives with her extended family in Kanpur. But there’s a hitch. Tanu loves a goonda from Lucknow and threatens Manu with dire consequences if he doesn’t say No to the wedding. Poor Manu! He not only says No but tries his best to get his dream girl marry her boyfriend.

REVIEW : The performances by Maddy, kangana and Jimmy were splendid. The final resonates with other movies, but leaves it’s mark. Direction was great. Fun while it lasts, Tanu Weds Manu throws up Bollywood’s newest obsession — small town girls and their gunas (values) — once again. A meatier storyline and a less messed up climax would have worked wonders for the film. An overall fun and entertaining movie.

CABIN IN THE WOODS – Review

When a group of friends goes on a seemingly innocent vacation to a cabin in the woods, the audience begins to discover they are merely pawns of a much bigger scheme at play, all leading towards an immensely satisfying conclusion that satiated the wishes of all manner of horror fans.
Not only was the film an entirely entertaining experience, filled with both laughs and effective horrors, but what truly made the film stand out was its metatextual themes. Seasoned horror fans have seen countless stories unfold about college kids in the woods, with the film managing to address the well-worn elements of the genre to both satirize them while fully embracing them. This movies is very interesting and entertaining. It has many twists and turns. Great suspense . It is a very unique and clever movie . Absolute masterpiece and a must watch.
