Dishoom

Release date : 29th July, 2016

Cast : Varun Dhawan, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez

Director : Rohit Dhawab

Dishoom is a 2016 Indian hindi-language buddy cop action comedy. Kabir and Junaid, two policemen at odds with each other, embark on a mission to the Middle East to rescue Viraj, a leading cricketer who has been kidnapped. Slapstick but good fun describes the film. The combo of the 3 actors make for a good time pass watch. The film is clearly aiming for laughs, and even when it gets lost along the way, blindsided by some unnecessarily elaborate action moment or by a bicepped un-actor, it still provides a fair bit of corny fun. Dishoom received a mixed bag of reviews from critics.

War

Release date : 2nd October, 2019

Cast : Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff

Director : Siddharth Anand

War is a 2019 Hindi-language action thriller, and follows an Indian soldier assigned to eliminate his former mentor and he must keep his wits about him if he is to be successful in his mission. When the two men collide, it results in a barrage of battles and bullets. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, with praise for the performances of Roshan and Shroff and the action sequence, but criticism for its predictable storyline. For those that will buy a ticket simply to gawk at the collective handsomeness of its leading men, War gives you your money’s worth. It’s an interesting premise, but the director, who has also co-written the film’s story and screenplay, seems ill-equipped to build on it. Much of the movie plays out like a cat-and-mouse chase across slick foreign locations.

Udta Punjab

Release date : 17th June, 2016

Cast : Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh

Director : Abhishek Chaubey

Udta Punjab is a 2016 Indian black comedy crime film. It is loosely based on and revolves around the drug abuse by the youth population in the Indian state of Punjab and the various conspiracies surrounding it. Chaubey uses a part-documentary-part-mainstream approach here. Post interval, the film is sometimes too indulgent and sluggish. Also this is not your sunny-side up cinema. It is stark and makes you cringe. However, its victory lies in making you empathise with its characters. As Alia and Shahid, both victims of drug and physical abuse fight their demons and destinies, you shed a silent tear. The impact is such that it will stay with you even when you leave the theatre.

The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, with praise for Scorsese’s direction, the comedic performance of DiCaprio and the fast-paced and consistent humour. It has also been criticized by many as glorifying the infamous individuals and immoral behaviours portrayed in the film. It is one of the most amusing and appalling films around. URI : The Surgical Strike

Release Date : 11th January, 2019

Cast : Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal, Mohit Raina

Director :  Aditya Dhar

Uri: The Surgical Strike is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language military action film, which is based on the September 2016 retaliation surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army in response to the terror attacks at Uri, the army base camp in Kashmir. Vicky Kaushal plays the role of a dedicated soldier, Vihaan, who is known for his meticulous strategizing and planning in missions. Although a fitting tribute to the Indian Army conceptually, but cinematically, it’s not a film without flaws. It is a decent film for most parts. The first half is far more gripping than the second. Post intermission, the makers themselves seem over-excited, to the point of losing control of the narrative. The line between what’s believable and what’s actually not, becomes blurred. It is a painstakingly directed, brilliantly acted and diligently researched action film which won four National Film Awards, including Best Direction and Best Actor.
