The notebook movie

Directed by Nick Cassavetes, this adaptation of author Nicholas Sparks’ bestselling novel revolves around Noah Calhoun’s (James Garner) regular visits to a female patron (Gena Rowlands) of an area nursing home. Rather than bore her with the inanities of everyday life, Calhoun reads from an old, faded notebook containing the sweeping account of a young couple (Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams) whose love affair was tragically put to a halt after their separation in the midst of World War II. Seven years later, the couple was reunited, and, despite having taken radically different paths, they found themselves unable to resist the call of a second chance. The Notebook also features Joan Allen, Sam Shepard, and Kevin Connolly. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

FIRST MAN Movie Review

Directed byDamien Chazelle

Starring

Ryan Gosling

Claire Foy

Jason Clarke

Kyle Chandler

Another spectacle from Damien Chazelle.First Man is a 2018 American biographical drama film. Based on the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James R. Hansen. From Extremely close up shots, Chazelle manages to capture every essence of space and characters because fortunately, this isn’t just a film about moon landing, it’s a film about Neil Armstrong. On a technical level, First Man shines gloriously as it has some of the best handheld shots and cinematography. From the opening scene, Chazelle makes you believe that you’re going to be on an epic journey. Characterization, in my opinion is pithch perfect and makes the best use of its slow pacing and star strudded cast. That said, First Man is as high on the mind as it is on the heart, it makes you face enough challenges to believe that the landing wasn’t easy at all, at a point of time I had given up the fact that the landing ever happened.

GOLD MOVIE REVIEW

Directed by
Reema Kagti

Starring
Akshay Kumar
Mouni Roy

Gold was released in 2018. Inspired by true events and people, of India’s first gold medal win as an independent nation at the 1948 Olympics in London. Tapan Das (Akshay Kumar), the team manager, leads the charge to assemble the country’s first all-Indian hockey team. His aim is to beat the Britishers at their own game, on their own turf.
The emotions run high in the film, as a handful of Indians put their personal differences aside to make the country proud. As we witness India winning its first gold as a free nation, you also see the Pakistani players cheer for Indians playing on the field. Moments like this, make ‘Gold’ a film which is more just a sports drama. This one is surely worth its weight in gold.

SANJU

Sanju is a 2018 Indian biographical film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi. The film follows the life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, his addiction with drugs, arrest for alleged association with the 1993 Bombay bombings, relationship with his father, comeback in the industry, the eventual drop of charges from bombay blasts, and release after completing his jail term. Sanju blends humor with drama effortlessly. Ranbir Kapoor stars as Dutt, along with an ensemble cast. Ranbir Kapoor is just as good as his reputation.Yes, there’s a lot missing, but even then, this is still an incredible story of a man and a movie star who made massive mistakes, walked through fire, survived it and lived one heck of a life. Watch this movie if you feel low and in need of some inspiration, it is funny and heart warming. It is available on Disney+ Hotstar.
