Toilet – Ek Prem Katha is a Hindi-language comedy-drama film. The film is a satirical comedy in support of governmental campaigns to improve sanitation conditions in India. The film was a commercial success, becoming Akshay Kumar’s highest-grossing film all time . The film highlights India’s toilet problem, which is caused by their cultural and religious sentiments. This story is partly inspired by true events. The story revolves around Keshav (Kumar) who falls in love with Jaya (padnekar) who is an educated college going girl. Keshav convinces her to marry him. Keshav’s father is a very religious and superstitious priest. On her first morning in Keshav’s house, Jaya reluctantly goes to a field to defecate, but comes back agitated without defecating and complains about it to Keshav. Keshav makes temporary adjustments. After some days, Jaya files for divorce and states unavailability of a toilet in her husband’s house as the primary reason. This gains media attention and the concerned government start constructing toilets. This film highlights the necessity of sanitation by using humour . The story is well written and tremendously portrayed. Akshay never ceases to impress the audience. Even though it was a commercial success, the critics have had a divided opinion. Overall an OK movie with, great acting, and good social message.
